There are 12 fully accredited New York medical schools recognized by the Association of American Medical Colleges. I will discuss some of the more popular ones in this article. New York Medical College is not only one of the largest New York medical schools, but in fact one of the nation's biggest private health sciences universities. The campus is only 30 minutes north of New York City, and is home to 1660 students. 760 of the students are enrolled in the school of medicine, to earn their M.D. degree. Stony Brook University Health Sciences Center School of Medicine is located in Stony Brook, New York. Between the different programs, they have a combined enrollment of 2,500 students, who study a wide range of different fields related to health care. Their specialty relates to the fields of dental medicine, nursing, social work and health technology. Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons is one of the leaders in research in the country, when it comes to the medical field. The primary focus is on education, while providing an understanding of the science, art and ethics of applying the knowledge and skill, in addition to just simply teaching the curriculum. Albany Medical Center provides the only center for academic health sciences in the 25 counties of eastern New York and western New England. It is also the home of one of New York's largest teaching hospitals, is one of the nation's first private medical schools, and definitely should be a consideration when choosing New York medical schools. The Albert Einstein College of Medicine, located in the Bronx, focuses primarily on education research and clinical investigation. Currently, this college is home to around 2000 faculty members, making it a great choice because of its high faculty to student ratio. Weill Medical College of Cornell University is among the top clinical and medical research centers in the United States. The college itself offers 20 different academic departments. Seven focus on the sciences underlying clinical medicine, while the other 13 focus on study, treatment and prevention of human diseases and maternity care. Other New York medical schools to consider are the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry, State University of New York upState Medical University, Buffalo State University of New York School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences and Mount Sinai School of Medicine of New York University.
