Top US Medical Schools

Medical school is expensive.  One of the best way to cut higher cost is to earn scholarships for medical school.  In this article, I'll discuss a wide variety of different scholarships for medical school that are available, that many people do not even consider.

The Jack Kent Cooke Foundation -- this foundation is looking for young people who show exceptional promise, application, and character in their academic endeavors, who are in need of financial help.  This is one of the most competitive scholarships in the country, with over a thousand nominations for each of their programs.  The foundation will award scholarships to total up to 50,000 a year.

Harry S. Truman Foundation -- this foundation specializes in awarding scholarships to juniors who are headed for careers in the public service industry.  This can include medical school, as long as you meet the requirements for their scholarships.

Daughters of the American Revolution: each year this committee awards over $150,000 in scholarships.  They are looking for those pursuing undergraduate degrees that have shown a dedication in either history, political science, economics, government or nursing.  You must obtain a letter of sponsorship from your local Daughters of American Revolution chapter to be accepted as an applicant.

AAMC Medical Scientist Training Program -- this program provides funding for various M.D. in Ph.D. programs in both the United States and Canada.  Currently, it supports 39 United States medical schools.

M.A. Cartland Shackford Medical Fellowship -- this is a scholarship opportunity for women who have a graduated from any institution in America.

Chinese American Medical Society -- for the last 34 years, the Chinese American medical Society has awarded up to five scholarships to your medical/dental students of Chinese descent.  Funds are gathered from contributions and fund-raising dinners.

National Italian American Foundation -- to qualify for a scholarship from this foundation, you either have to be an Italian American student who has shown great potential in high academic achievements or a student majoring or minoring in Italian language, Italian studies, or related field who has shown high academic achievement.  Scholarships for medical school usually run from $2,500-$10,000.

National Medical Fellowships -- these scholarships are given to minority students who have shown exceptional ability and leadership and community service, as well as aptitude in their field.  These are awarded during medical school, and the medical school must recommend the student, before the student is considered eligible for the scholarship.
